3 Keys to Successfully Stretch Your Budget!

As budgets remain tight, every effort must be made to cut dollars without cutting quality or the WOW factor you seek for impacting those promising prospective students! Below are three strategies for making those dollars go further.

1) Total Shipping Weight

• At minimum, keep total package weight at 15.999 oz. or less. Not breaking the 1 lb threshold is critical! Going over it raises your costs significantly.

• The optimum weight is around 5-9 total ounces. This cuts back shipping costs significantly but still allows a wider range of items to create that WOW factor as opposed to a ‘oh, thanks’ response.

2) Packaging

• Tyvek bags – weight under 1 oz. Depending on size the weight is around .5 to .6 oz.

• Bubble envelopes – also under 1 oz., ranging from .4 to .7 oz.

• Full-Color Custom Boxes – depending on the size of box needed, their weight can range from 2-5 oz.

As you factor in packaging, custom boxes are very affordable in relation to their WOW factor, but they do add more weight. Bubble envelopes and Tyvek bags have a very low WOW factor without at least adding an attractive sticker to keep them from being very bland.

3) Best Light Weight Promo

Use a ‘feature item’, plus one, two or three supporting items for additional excitement. For example:

• Cap/ Visor (2.9 oz) and Sunglasses (.8 oz).
• Beanie (1.80 oz-2.6 oz) and Screen Touch Gloves (1.20 oz)
• Earbuds (2.80 oz) and Stretch bands (.20 oz)
• Anvil 980 Super Soft T (4.9 oz) and Gator (1.0 oz)
• Drawstring tote w/ front zipper (2.2 oz) and Socks (1.6-1.8 oz)
• Water bottle (6 oz) and Tech Tattoos/Stickers (.20 oz)

There are multiple items that can work very well to create the “WOW effect” package you are looking for.

**In Summary: One additional tip –

Make sure to get samples of product and packaging so you can confirm the actual weight when they are put together! This will keep you from experiencing shipping sticker shock if the packaged product ends up being more than you anticipated.
